Note:
Jones:
The son of an engraver, Jones entered the R.A. schools in 1801 and exhibited portrait and landscapes from 1803-1811. He joined the army and served under Wellington in both the Peninsula and the occupation of Paris. He painted many military subjects from this era. George Jones was elected A.R.A. in 1822, and R.A. in 1824 and acting President from 1845-50. In 1851, he acted as J.M.W. Turner’s executor.
